City of Calgary Water Managed Site Program

The City of Calgary has approved a Water Managed Sites Program (WMS), allowing properties to be certified by the City as water efficient using a climate or historical weather data controlled irrigation system.

A Certified Landscape Irrigation Audit is the first step in the certification process after confirming your system has the following:

A smart controller with remote operability and real-time weather data capabilities
Weather station or a rain sensor or moisture sensor
Leak/flow sensor
Electronically controlled irrigation master valve
A recently inspected and approved Cross Connection Control Device (RP/DCVA)
Billing meter (multi-unit, residential, industrial, commercial, institutional sites only) or
Volume totalizer (single family and duplex properties only)

What is a Certified Landscape Auditor (CLIA)?

Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditors (CLIA) are certified by the Irrigation Association, and their primary role is by identifying potential issues or improvements, performing an in-depth analysis of your irrigation system for optimal performance.

Some of the services a CLIA will perform include but are not limited to:

Collecting site-specific data
Providing maintenance recommendations and performing minor repairs.
Taking field measurements and making observations.
Determining irrigation uniformity and efficiency.
Developing a basic irrigation schedule.
Collaborating with water managers or property owners to optimize irrigation water use.
